The economies of the Pacific Franc Zone are once again experiencing mixed trends in 2025. New Caledonia continues to be affected by the aftermath of the 2024 riots: the economy remains awaiting clarification of the institutional outlook, a key factor for confidence and investment decisions. Conversely, in French Polynesia, the business climate is improving and a majority of businesses are reporting an overall increase in their activity. In particular, the momentum in the tourism sector and a robust labour market are providing favourable prospects. In both territories, inflation remains low, although food prices are rising significantly in Wallis and Futuna.
Furthermore, rising international tensions and their impact on hydrocarbon prices are dampening short-term growth prospects and increasing the risks to price stability. This upheaval once again emphasises the imperative for an energy transition in the overseas territories. The stakes are high, but the remarkable results already achieved in some territories demonstrate the overseas territories’ considerable capacity to rise to this challenge.
In this context of increased uncertainty, the Institut d’émission d’outre-mer (IEOM) continues to fulfil its role in promoting the development of overseas economies. It contributes to the economic debate and supports decision-makers’ actions by producing analyses. It ensures the proper financing of the economy through appropriate monetary policy measures. It is also deeply committed to ensuring the availability and security of payment methods and to providing better support to economic actors in their financing needs, through company credit ratings, the management of personal debt, credit mediation and financial education for all audiences.
IEOM in 2025 will have:
- 61 million banknotes issued at our counters;
- 507 overindebtedness cases processed;
- 4,822 rated companies;
- a 100 basis point reduction in key interest rates;
- 76 economic and economic outlook publications published.
This activity report outlines all the initiatives carried out in this regard by our teams based in New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, and at IEOM’s head office in Paris.
